It is considered the earliest centre for public education in Thailand, and the marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognized by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Program. It also houses a school of Thai medicine, and is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. It is currently partially open to the public as a museum, but it remains a working palace, with several royal offices still situated inside. read more
One of the most magnificent temples in Thailand known to the local as Wat Phra Kaew meaning “the temple of the Emerald Buddha”. The temple is located on the outer royal court of the Royal Grand Palace. It is Thailand’s most sacred temple because it is the location of Emerald Buddha, the most highly venerated Buddha image in Thailand. The Ramayana, or locally known as ‘Ramakien’, mural found inside the temple is not only the world’s longest painting, but it is also the world’s longest form of comic book art, better known as sequential art to comic book art historians.
